MattSound / Services / CH 04 · Live Mixing

FOH, IEM, and broadcast — one operator, one system.

Weekly worship services, conferences, one-off events, or a broadcast feed that needs to sound like it was mixed in post. I mix front-of-house, in-ear monitors, and the broadcast split with the same level of care — because it's all the same signal chain.

A — What I mix

Three positions, one intentional mix.

Most operators do one of these well. Running all three together — and letting each inform the others — is where the final sound gets serious.

  • Front-of-House (FOH)The room mix. Tuned to the speakers and the seats, not just the channel meter.
  • In-Ear Monitors (IEM)Stereo and personal mixes. Clear individual mixes so the band plays instead of fights the monitors.
  • Broadcast FeedIndependent mix optimized for the stream, not a stereo bus split from FOH. The stream sounds like a production, not a room recording.
  • Systems / PatchInput lists, patch sheets, redundancy planning, and line-check procedures set up in advance.
  • Virtual Sound CheckMulti-track record from rehearsal so the sound check can happen without the band in the room.
  • Snapshot ProgrammingPer-song or per-element scenes built during rehearsal and driven on cue during service.
B — Console experience

Comfortable on the desks you already own.

I've spent thousands of hours on these surfaces. If your venue is on something else, ask — the fundamentals transfer quickly.

  • DiGiCo SD RangeSD12, SD10, SD9, SD5. Show file construction, snapshot programming, MADI split routing.
  • Avid VENUE · S6L / S3LPro Tools integration, multi-track virtual sound check, bus routing for broadcast splits.
  • Midas PRO / HD96POPulation routing, VCA groups, scene recall on legacy and current PRO surfaces.
  • Yamaha CL / QL / RivageDante routing, dual-console setups, scene recall and patching workflows.
  • Waves SoundGridPlugin hosting on any compatible console for FOH processing parity with studio.
  • Allen & Heath dLive / SQFor smaller venues running the A&H ecosystem; familiar with scene and routing workflows.
